MILTON — Milton Borough Council Wednesday night approved a memorandum of understanding with the Northumberland County Department of Public Safety to allow dispatchers to activate the outdoor warning siren remotely.

SUNBURY â The Northumberland County Commissioners on Thursday doled out more than $1.7 million in County Relief Block Grant (CRBG) funding through the federal CARES Act to municipalities, schools, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
Commissioner Chair Sam Schiccatano said SEDA-COG accepted applications on behalf of the county from the entities applying for the funds.
After SEDA-COG reviewed the applications to see if funding criteria was met, Schiccatano said the commissioners made the final decisions on how to award the funding.
He noted that many municipalities received funding to replace radios and related equipment for police and fire personnel.
"This (pandemic) was a reason to improve communication," Schiccatano said. "A lot of the radios that were replaced were old radios."
MILTON â Those working to make the holidays bright in Milton were praised during Wednesdayâs borough council meeting.
Borough Manager Jess Novinger offered thanks to the Milton WinterFest Committee for organizing Santaâs arrival and related activities taking place in the community this season.
She offered a special thanks to Frank and Sandy Muscarella for donating a large Christmas tree which stands in Lincoln Park.
Council President Mark Shearer added thanks to the Milton Fire Department for parading Santa through the borough Friday evening.
âI donât know what kind of pull you have to get Santa here, but wow, we appreciate it,â he said.
