Speed, jake braking cited as problems on Woods Hole Road

FALMOUTH The Select Board on Monday authorized a letter to be sent to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation asking for assistance on speeding and the weight of trucks traveling along Woods Hole Road. “The volumes of traffic on Woods Hole Road continue to expand,” Town Manager Julian Suso wrote in the letter on behalf of the Select Board. “The number of trucks carrying significant loads and expanding vehicle speeds are extremely concerning, all contributing to challenging public safety issues.” Select Board member Doug Jones, who is also a member of the Woods Hole/Falmouth Noise & Traffic Mitigation Working Group, raised concerns at the board s March 22 meeting about some issues on the roadway, which leads into the village.

Falmouth soon to become a green community

FALMOUTH The town is close to being designated as a green community, following in the footsteps of 279 other municipalities in Massachusetts, including eight on the Cape. The Select Board on Monday adopted its energy reduction plan, which is the last criterion needed to be designated as a “green community” by the state. Select Board Chairwoman Megan English Braga will send a letter to the state Department of Energy Resources to affirm the authorization. The letter must be submitted by Dec. 30. Municipalities designated as green communities are eligible to receive grant funds for green projects and those designed to further reduce energy consumption. The town could receive an initial grant of $190,000, as well as future funds for energy reductions.
