Aiming to help police officers and special needs children in an emergency, the Lawrence Township Police Department has launched Lville S.A.F.E.: Secure Awareness for First Encounters.
Parents and guardians whose child is autistic or who has a communications issue may register the child on the free Lville S.A.F.E. registry, said Police Chief Brian Caloiaro.
The goal is to help police and the children in an emergency.
“Police officers in Lawrence Township have been trained in dealing with disabilities. This program will just add to that training to ensure the safety and well-being of both the affected persons and the police officers,” Caloiaro said.

The planned Amazon “last mile” delivery station, approved for a vacant warehouse at 10 Princess Road, has drawn fire from residents of The Gatherings townhouse development who live down the street from the 340,400-square-foot warehouse.
A petition, signed by more than 80 residents of the age-restricted townhouse development, was presented to the Lawrence Township Council earlier this month. The petitioners requested the installation of a cul-de-sac on Princess Road to block trucks from passing through The Gatherings on their way to the warehouse.
But Lawrence Township officials are ahead of the issue, having pledged several times to consider creating a cul-de-sac on Princess Road near The Gatherings. Princess Road connects Princeton Pike and Franklin Corner Road.

Lawrence Township’s focus on sustainability – from creating a solar carport at the municipal building to installing two electric car charging stations for public and municipal use – has earned the Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award for Climate Change and Clean Air.
Lawrence Township Councilman Christopher Bobbitt accepted the award – which is New Jersey’s premier awards program that recognizes outstanding environmental performance, programs and projects – at the virtual awards ceremony Dec. 14.
“On behalf of my fellow Township Council members, the municipal manager and the residents of Lawrence Township, I am honored to accept this award,” Bobbitt said.
