The Capt. Royal Melvin Heritage Park officially opened on July 18 with a ribbon cutting and family members present to open the gateway to the harbor.

The city of Destin dropped some fees and raised others. The parking fee in the Harbor District was dropped to $15.

The Destin City Council voted 4-2 to no impose a $20 boat launch fee at Joes Bayou for city residents.

The non-resident parking pass will be $205, non-transferable and good for one year.

Proposed ordinance would ban the smoking of tobacco products - except unfiltered cigars - or vaping in any city-owned park or public beach.
