Fiji is no exception to trafficking in persons (TIP) says Defence, National Security and Policing Ministry permanent secretary Manasa Lesuma.
He made this comment while opening the “Countering Human Trafficking Training” in Nadi yesterday.
“Trafficking in persons is a transnational crime that does not respect borders, it is one of the worst forms of crimes against humanity.”
Mr Lesuma said Fiji’s partnership with donor partners such as the International Organization for Migration helped the Government identify possible victims and successful prosecution of perpetrators.
“Our labour market is expanding whereby we are not only sourcing employment within Fiji, but importing and exporting labour to and from other countries.”

Violence and harassment at work places has persisted for years - Lesuma Wednesday 17/02/2021
The Acting Permanent Secretary for Employment Manasa Lesuma says violence and harassment which includes unethical behaviours in workplaces has persisted for a number of years now.
While speaking at the International Labour Organization Validation Workshop of C190: Violence and Harassment in the World of Work this morning, Lesuma says this may have been due to our silence and lack of proper practical mechanisms.
He says violence and harassment is unacceptable anywhere and anytime.
Lesuma adds the risk of violence and harassment is even higher during times of crisis and we must all work collectively to address the issue in the work environment.
