Seymour Stein founded Sire Records and helped launch the careers of Madonna, Talking Heads and the Pretenders. He co-founded the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

As the co-founder (with Richard Gottehrer) of Sire Records in 1966, Seymour Stein reshaped the direction of popular music with his signing and tireless support of acts like the Ramones, Talking Heads, the Pretenders, The Smiths, The Cure, Ice-T, Echo & the Bunnymen, the Replacements and Madonna.

The Grand Forks Police Department said 53-year-old Dwight Cross pulled out what appeared to be a sawed-off shotgun when he was fired upon several times. It was later determined to be a pellet gun.

Stein, a legendary music executive who signed artists such as Madonna, Talking Heads, and the Ramones, was himself inducted into the Rock Hall in 2005.
