When will children ages 12 and up be able to get vaccinated in Canada? A province-by-province look
TORONTO, Ontario (CTV Network) Following Wednesday’s announcement that Health Canada has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children ages 12 and up, provinces are now deciding how their vaccine rollouts will reflect this information moving forward.
Although Health Canada has announced their approval based on recent clinical trials, whether or not any children will be receiving the shot anytime soon is up to individual provinces and territories.
Before this announcement, Pfizer was only permitted to be given to those 16 and up in Canada, and the focus of the majority of vaccine rollouts in Canada was on those 18 years and up.

WINNIPEG The province of Manitoba is dropping the age eligibility for COVID-19 vaccines, and says it plans to continue expanding age eligibility regularly as supplies allow. During a vaccine briefing on Wednesday, Johanu Botha, co-lead of Manitoba’s Vaccine Implementation Task Force, said people age 45 years or older can book a vaccine appointment beginning at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday. Dr. Joss Reimer, the medical lead of the Vaccine Implementation Task Force, said this is the largest age jump in the province. This is one of the largest age-based expansions we have announced so far, which reflects more vaccine now being available to us, said Reimer.
