An Easter egg hunt was held at Mapleton Elementary School Friday as part of a reward day and the start of spring break.

If approved, the levy would generate more than $1 million annually for school operations in the Ashland County district.

The Mapleton district welcomes a new administrative assistant, teachers, bus drivers and a cook.

The school's $5.3-million bond issue needed 60% approval, and the vote came in at 59.2%.

The Mapleton Lions Club hosted the 2022 Mapleton Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony.   Capt. Gabriel Cheney, who grew up in Castle Hill and is now a member of the Vermont Army National Guard, was the grand marshal. 

Recent results of lead testing in SAD 1 schools show 16 percent of its water fixtures had levels above what Maine finds acceptable, though school officials confirmed no drinking water sources were affected.
