A judge has issued a temporary restraining order against a development company after property owners filed a complaint claiming the company crossed onto a historic farm. The land is the homestead of a freed slave who was also a major figure in the horse breeding industry.

Marcellus R. Alexander Jr., 62, of Hewitt, passed peacefully away at home with his loved ones near on Sunday, April 18, 2021.
Born on Feb. 6, 1959, in Waiblingen, Germany, Hans Peter Gilgasch was adopted by an American service couple, the late SMSgt. Marcellus Alexander Sr. and Sgt. Helen (Ault) Alexander, who raised him as their only son and gave him the name Marcellus Jr. The family lived in France until they were stationed back in the United States in 1964, when Marcellus Jr. became a naturalized U.S. citizen.
On Jan. 27, 1978, he was united in marriage to Judy K Cornell, his loving and devoted wife of over 43 years.
