BY SUSAN HANAFEE – Super Bowl Sunday will take on a new meaning at the Lighthouse United Methodist Church on Feb. 7 as local chefs and volunteers offer a delicious variety of soups for sale to benefit orphaned children.
Soups are $5 for a 16-ounce carton, payable in advance or at the time of pick-up. Orders must be placed no later than Wednesday, Feb. 3 by calling 941-964-2479 or emailing info@bglighthouseumc.com.
Available soups include: Shrimp Andouille by Chef J. T. Turner; Lobster Bisque by Chef Greg Foos, executive chef of the Boca Grande Club; Taco Soup by Chris Steinhelper; Cream of Mushroom by Kathy Peters and Chicken Noodle by Pat Witschonke.

STAFF REPORT – Introducing the 3rd Annual (but first-ever virtual) Boca Grande Film Festival! This year’s festival will span five days with a diverse selection of riveting films and documentaries, viewable through the Friends of Boca Grande online film hub. To keep the festival vibe alive, Friends of Boca Grande Community center will be hosting a socially distanced opening night drive-in film and ending with a live drive-in concert at the closing reception. Stay engaged by casting a vote for each film and participating in exclusive virtual events that will be announced throughout the festival.

February 15, 7 p.m. at the Friends Pavilion. “H Is For Happiness” will be the film. Premier Passholders will join ‘Friends’ on the pavilion for the outdoor film drive-in.

The words may have come from Shakespeare, but they describe Jam “Noy” Vollmer exactly. Once you met her, you never forgot her. Once she entered a room, you forgot what it was like before she was there.
Noy left this earth on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, and her passing left a void that could not, and will not, be filled. Her radiant smile, her eyes that were filled with laughter in one moment and an all-business intensity the next, her diminutive frame, her never-ending love for her family and friends … they were all Noy trademarks.

Braden Perkins was born in New Orleans Louisiana and grew up in Boston. Braden worked for four years with celebrity chef Tom Douglas in Seattle. In 2011 Braden and his partner, Laura Adrian, opened their first restaurant, Verjus beside the Palais Royal in the center of Paris, France.
In 2015 the duo opened their second restaurant just down the street from the first. In 2020 they purchased a farm just outside Paris and will begin construction on a restaurant at the farm in the spring of 2021.
Braden has been featured on “The Barefoot Contessa” with Ina Garten, as well as in the “New York Times,” “The Wall Street Journal,” “Bon Appétit,” “Saveur,” “Food and Wine,” Travel and Leisure,” “Afar,” Goop,” “Milk Street” and other publications.
