MANCHESTER A woman wielding a large kitchen knife while walking to a family member’s house in the Cedar Glen Lakes neighborhood to start a confrontation was taken into custody after a daring intervention by township police officers on Monday, according to authorities.
Margaret Dennis, 74, of the Whiting section, was seen walking in the area of Nevada Drive and Louisiana Way about 12:45 p.m. with the knife which triggered a police response. The woman also stabbed “the hood of an occupied vehicle,” said Lt. Vincent Manco, a police spokesman.
While Patrolman Anthony Iliadis distracted her with conversation, Patrolman Arthur Cronk approached Dennis from behind and was able to disarm the woman by sneaking up behind her and grabbing her hand, Manco said.
A Whiting woman who was on her way to allegedly cause a confrontation at a family members house was arrested after carrying a large kitchen knife and stabbing a random car along the way in the Cedar Glen Lakes section of town.
MANCHESTER A 74-year-old woman walking through a neighborhood with a large kitchen knife was arrested Monday after she stabbed the hood of a parked car, police said.
Township police responding to calls from the Cedar Glen Lakes section said they found Margaret Dennis, 74, on Arizona Drive.
They said she refused to comply with several orders to drop the knife. One of the officers engaged Dennis in conversation while a second approached her from behind and successfully disarmed her by grabbing her hand and removing the weapon without injuring Dennis or himself, police said.
Investigators found that the car Dennis was stabbing was picked randomly. The said she was on her way to a family member s home in order to confront them about something.

MANCHESTER, NJ A Manchester Township woman was disarmed and arrested Monday after police found her brandishing a knife in the middle of a street, Manchester police said Tuesday. Margaret Dennis, 74, of the Whiting section, was stabbing the hood of an occupied vehicle when police arrived in the Cedar Glen Lakes section about 12:45 p.m., Lt. Vincent Manco said.
Patrolman Anthony Iliadis found Dennis walking down the middle of Arizona Drive holding a large kitchen knife, Manco said. Iliadis asked Dennis several times to drop the knife but she refused. So while Dennis was speaking with Iliadis and distracted, Patrolman Arthur Cronk snuck up on her from behind and was able to grab her hand and take the knife away without hurting himself or Dennis, Manco said.

Manchester Police said that as they responded to the Nevada Drive and Louisiana Way area on Monday they received a report of a woman actively stabbing the hood of an occupied vehicle.
The patrolman who was first on the scene made contact with the woman, later identified as 74-year old Margaret Dennis, who spotted her talking down the middle of Arizona Drive holding a large kitchen knife.
