As is tradition with Waverly Newspapers, we are publishing the Christmas wishes of elementary students in our circulation area, which can be seen in Section B of todayâs edition.
This year, we have submissions from Margareta Carey, Denver and Tripoli elementary schools. Several of them provided their standard wish lists to Santa Claus, while a few asked questions of the Jolly Olâ Elf.
However, 2020 has been touched by the novel coronavirus, but it seems that it wonât prevent Santa from making his around-the-world trek to deliver gifts to the good girls and boys. One first-grader from Denver asked if Santa had âcoved 19.â
Option 1: âRight Sizeâ
Estimated cost: $24.5 million-$29.5 million
This first option would renovate all four existing elementary schools â Shell Rock, Margareta Carey, West Cedar and Southeast â while making additions onto the three in Waverly. It would also eliminate the portable classrooms currently being used for fourth-grade students.
Some of the advantages listed were that the option would keep the status quo on community presence, and it could address safety and security concerns. However, the disadvantages include no gain in operational efficiency, no space to address site concerns, and it doesnât address long-term growth.
Option 2: âA New Standardâ
Estimated cost: $38.2 million-$43 million
