marina barnett toni collette: Live & Latest News Updates : Vimarsana.com
Stowaway (now streaming on Netflix) sees the film-making pair dealing with double the number of characters. Veteran commander Marina Barnett (Toni Collette), on her third and final space mission, acclaimed biologist David Kim (Daniel Dae Kim) and medical researcher Zoe Levenson (Anna Kendrick) are the official crew of MTS-42, a trio charged with a two-year mission to the red planet many believe will provide the first steps to us being able to call it our second-home. While a slightly underperforming main engine during take off comes close to causing them to abort, it isn’t long before they’re settling into their various tasks. During a brief press conference, Zoe enthuses that this is a rare opportunity “to give her life meaning”, while Marina expresses full confidence that her latest colleagues are well-equipped to handle anything that comes their way.

Awards season ripens in April. With the buzz around the Academy Awards, this month’s new film releases are likely pushed to the mental back burner. Yet, there’s no need to fret — film beat reporters Dominic Marziali and Maya Thompson are here to help you stay up to date on the movies that might otherwise be swept beneath the Oscars’ red carpet.
“Cher and the Loneliest Elephant”
How long can a gimmick carry a film? Approximately 46 minutes, proves the Smithsonian Channel’s documentary “Cher and the Loneliest Elephant.” The film chronicles the rescue of an Asian elephant named Kavaan and the surprising celebrity support that furthered the initiative. Kavaan was held in captivity in an Islamabad zoo for nearly 20 years in isolation and poor living conditions. The elephant’s dire condition inspired veterinarian Dr. Samar Khan to launch an online campaign, and in the internet’s mystifying ways, it somehow spilled onto Cher’s Twitter feed. Cher responded to the injustice — in her typical all-caps and emoji-laden fashion — and co-founded an animal rights organization called Free the Wild.

Successes don’t have the inherent drama that failures do, and when mistakes happen in space, they automatically involve life-or-death decisions, given the difficulty in getting back to Earth and the relative flimsiness of the spacecraft. The new Netflix movie
Stowaway is full of that kind of drama, if not complete believability. Three astronauts — Marina Barnett (Toni Collette), Zoe Levenson (Anna Kendrick), and David Kim (Daniel Dae Kim) — launch on a two-year mission to Mars as the film begins. All appears to be going swimmingly until Marina discovers Michael Adams (Shamier Anderson), an engineer who somehow got stuck in a panel aboard the spaceship, unintentionally becoming a stowaway.

Every so often, a science-fiction movie floats along with the aim of sending audiences on a semi-realistic voyage across the stars. Sunshine, Gravity, Interstellar and The Martian all come to mind, each with their own Hollywood take on space travel and astronautical adventures.
Now Netflix’s Stowaway steps up with a compelling psychological drama, following a three-person team starting their two-year mission to Mars in an attempt to build a colony.
It starts out hopeful, as the crew of the Kingfisher get comfortable for the long haul, joking with each other and establishing a friendly working dynamic. Medical researcher Zoe Levenson (Anna Kendrick) banters with biologist David Kim (Daniel Dae Kim), while the steely Commander Marina Barnett (Toni Collette) leads the trio. Their craft/research station is tied via lengthy cables to the main hull of the Kingfisher, as the huge contraption spins to create a form of artificial gravity, allowing the crew to live fairly normally day-to-day.

Having already stranded Mads Mikkelsen in the Arctic Circle, director Joe Penna apparently decided that his next survival film would amp up the desolation, settling upon the only plausible option: outer space. This time, however, the struggle for resources involves a horrific moral calculus, to be worked out by a crew of four. As the title suggests, it was meant to be three;
Stowaway opens with the launch of a rocket headed for Mars (the year is never stated, but there’s a colony in place), commanded by Marina Barnett (Toni Collette) and including biologist David Kim (Daniel Dae Kim) and medic Zoe Levenson (Anna Kendrick). They’re on a two-year mission, roughly half of which will be spent in transit, six months each way. Only when they’re some distance from Earth, however, do they discover that a NASA tech dude, Michael Adams (Shamier Anderson), got knocked unconscious while making a last-minute check of the ship’s innards, somehow failed to be noticed as missing, and so inadvertently came along for the ride.
