After convicting Akeel Mitchell and Richard Chatoo of the heinous crime at the end of their virtual judge-alone trial yesterday, High Court Judge Lisa Ramsumair-Hinds sought to pre-empt possible calls from the members of the public for the duo to face the mandatory death penalty for murder.

Two men, accused of murdering six-year-old Sean Luke over 15 years ago, are expected to learn their fate on July 23. High Court Judge Lisa Ramsumair-Hinds set the date for the verdict in Richard Chatoo and Akeel Mitchell’s judge-alone trial after Chatoo completed his defence during a virtual hearing yesterday. Ramsumair-Hinds is expected to hear submissions from prosecutors and the duo’s defence attorneys on the legal issues in the case on Friday before listening to their closing addresses on how to consider the evidence, next week.
