A quartet of new streets at the edge of Mentor now have the names of Lakeland Community College presidents as a tribute to the college and its newly forged relationship with Vitalia, a new 55-plus community.
Independence-based Rose Community, the company Jonathan Rose Cos. of New York City formed to hold and operate the federal housing portfolio it bought in 2017 from the former Forest City Realty Trust Inc., is continuing to grow.
In just four years, Vitalia has launched or is building 10 communities for people over age 50. Although it's considered a form of senior housing, the founders dislike the phrase. Its leaders argue that a change in mindset toward aging and getting the most out of life after retirement present a new approach to the sector.
