Motorists in Queensland could soon be forced to complete a road rules test to renew driver licences, as authorities combat a rising road toll. However, in a move that has angered safety advocates, annual vehicle road-worthiness checks are still not on the cards.

The government is considering the introduction of a "refresher course" on road rules for people who are renewing their licence.

Queenslanders may be forced to undertake a test when renewing their licences as part of an overhaul to road safety rules.

“It’s not whether we take your licence off you or not,” the transport minister says.

The Queensland Government is considering a stack of measures to improve road safety — including a road rules refresher course when renewing licenses.
