Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said the acquisition of Nuance will boost the company’s cloud-based health-tech services.

The acquisition of Nuance will double Microsoft's total addressable market in the healthcare space to nearly $500 billion, Microsoft added.

Microsoft Corp said on Monday it would buy artificial intelligence and speech technology firm Nuance Communications Inc for about $16 billion, as it expands cloud solutions for healthcare customers.

The deal comes as Microsoft works to build out its industry vertical play.
