Now sherman and grant are pursuing the grand strategy that they form lated in march of 1864 in cincinnati, ohio. The idea was to keep the armies in the east and in the west confederate armies so busy that they could not reinforce each other. And not have a repeat fiasco in the battle in september of 1863.
