The Austin Convention Center opened as a field hospital to patients for the first time Tuesday morning as area hospitals move closer to exceeding capacity due to a rise in coronavirus cases. The start of the new year witnessed several grim milestones in Austins COVID-19 crisis. seven-day moving average for COVID-19 hospitalizations reached an all-time high of 83 for Austin and Travis County, marking a 160% rise in new hospitalizations since Dec. 5.
