Following a six-furlong work by Dr. Schivel Saturday at Santa Anita, trainer Mark Glatt said the multiple Grade 1 winner would ship to New York and run in next Saturday’s G1 Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park.

“You dream about these big races,” said Hernandez. “I put him on the lead and he was comfortable. He was pulling on the backside and that is a good sign.”

"It's a one-turn mile, so it's a bit of a stretch out but not a two-turn stretch out. It depends how each race ultimately shapes up."

In a command performance, the Eric Kruljac-trained The Chosen Vron pounced on his competition a quarter mile from home and strode to a sensational 5 ½ length score in Sunday’s $100,000 Thor’s Echo Stakes at Santa Anita. 

After a sharp comeback win off a 14-month layoff, California-based sprinter Dr. Schivel will take his talents to New York for the $250,000 True North (G2) on June 10, Belmont Stakes Day.

Racing as a team the final quarter of a mile, Juan Hernandez, aboard Conclude, kept even money favorite First Peace and Mike Smith at bay by a scant nose in Sunday’s $100,000 Desert Code Stakes for 3-year-olds at about 6 ½ furlongs down Santa Anita’s hillside turf course.

After being sidelined nearly 14 months, multiple Grade 1 winner Dr. Schivel looked to be as good as ever on Saturday when rolling to a ¼-length victory in a classified allowance going six furlongs at Santa Anita.
