UC Riverside scientists are on the hunt for a chemical that disrupts “evil” weevils’ mating and could prevent them from destroying California’s supply of avocados. 

The goldspotted oak borer had killed at least 25,000 oak trees in San Diego and Riverside counties only nine years after being found in California.

UC Riverside scientists have a new chemical weapon to seduce and kill the invasive, long-nosed beetles destroying California palm trees by the tens of thousands.

Some say it’s only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

Trail stewards are concerned that a palm weevil infestation on a nearby tree could spread and increase the risk of using the swing.

The avocado lace bug has burst onto orchards, causing reduced yields, smaller fruit size and an increase in blemished fruit that can't be sold.
