he is so brave. first, let s get to the news live at 5:30 a.m. here at 30 rock in new york city. as i mentioned, the united states supreme court last night rejected an 11th hour stay of execution for troy davis despite doubts about his guilt. the 42-year-old died at 11:08 p.m. eastern time by lethal injection after a four-hour delay due to the legal review by the supreme court. davis was convicted in the 1989 killing of off-duty savannah, georgia, police officer mark mac phail. he was shot in the chest and face. he and his family should not be forgotten in all of this. controversy did surround the case, though. seven out of nine key witnesses who testified against davis had disputed or recanted all or parts of their testimonies in the years since the 1991 trial. questions were raised about the lack of fog evidence connecting of physical evidence connecting davis to the murder. no dna or fingerprint or blood evidence was discovered to tie davis to the crime.
