Two more charges have been laid at the Old Colony Mennonite Church in Wheatley after a gathering there Thursday morning.
Chatham-Kent’s top administrator, Don Shropshire, confirmed the charges during a conference call with media but didn’t have any more information.

These are the fifth charges laid against members of that Old Colony Mennonite Church under the Reopening Ontario Act.
The previous charges by Chatham-Kent police came after more than 100 people reportedly attended services on April 25, Dec. 27 and Dec. 26.

Come Together CK volunteers are taking tomatoes from the greenhouse to your house.

The tomatoes were bought from Blenheim-area greenhouse Platinum Produce, which was selling $5 flats to a long lineup of customers last week rather than let the tomatoes go bad. COVID-19 restrictions on restaurants had left the business with a surplus of produce.
One donor bought enough for the village of Shrewsbury, so volunteers went door to door this past weekend giving away more than 2,000 tomatoes. That inspired Wednesday’s tomato drive in Chatham.

Another member of the Old Colony Mennonite Church in Wheatley has been charged under the Reopening Ontario Act after more than 100 people attended a Sunday service.
The 44-year-old Wheatley man was charged Tuesday night by Chatham-Kent police for failing to comply with the act. He must attend provincial offences court May 19.

Two men from the church were also charged in late December after two services each drew more than 100 unmasked worshippers.
”It is unfortunate that some people still choose to not comply with the law considering these laws are put into place for everyone’s safety, including those who choose to break them,” Chatham-Kent police Chief Gary Conn said in a statement. “This pandemic requires a concerted effort by all our citizens in order to abate and eventually eradicate.
