investigate. is this a signal the prosecution doesn t have a strong case sneer. not necessarily. there is a big piece of evidence that is not yet publicly available. so we don t know about, which is the ballistics evidence. what angle were the shots fired? how close was pistorius to his victim? did the shots go through the door or were they directly into her body? those questions are going to be enormously important. they re complicated. they re difficult to discern from the evidence. that s the evidence the government needs to get together and the timing doesn t matter as much as actually getting the evidence. mark, you ve spent time reporting on this. what s your sense of the prosecution s case and the way the police have been investigating? well, you know, the first officer was taken off of the case. and, you know, he felt it was an open and closed case that he shot her. that s it. and now, you know, seems to be
taking, you know, the normal amount of time that i think these south african cases take, which are like in the u.s., where it takes a bit of time. jeff, the photos that leaked from the crime scene, there s one in particular from those website talk radio in south africa, shows a bloody bathroom, marks on the door where the bullet holes are believed to be. how much of an impact will that have? it does surprise me. but i don t think it will have that big an impact because, remember, in south africa, there are no jury trials. this will be up to a judge. so judges are used to seeing crime scene photos. they are unlikely to be swayed by this, especially months in advance of a trial. so i think unlike in the united states where you might have a jury where the jurors perspective jurors might see it, here that s not an issue. i don t think it s going to matter in the result of the case. mark, we heard from the judge today urging this case not be tried in the media.
