Democracy in danger? Depending on the media you follow in 2024, we’re hearing about it during a presidential election year.

From movies, to checkers, a school dedication and a fire department mascot, plenty was going on across our region during the month of January 1929.

From departures, business shakeups, Jets fans and debuts, plenty was going on across our region during January 1969.

Buildings were making news, and local people were being honored during the month of January 1979.

There were New Year’s resolution ideas bouncing around. New developments surfaced at the two Oneonta college campuses. Walton was aiming for a new hospital.

As 2023 comes to end we’re observing two wars elsewhere, among other issues such as open borders and homelessness.

A year had passed. Upon the upcoming New Year’s morning, going into 1954, there weren’t the nerves or as many early wake up times to be ready to go on
