A few years back it was announced that the Paris Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld had called it quits after 10 years at the helm of the worlds number one fashion magazine. Her years as the top editor were marked by "constant growth" both in terms of circulation and advertising. Photo  -   Airlie Beach, Whitsundays, a play ground A grieving mothers plea is another desperate "cry in the wilderness" for young people not to binge drink, as it can lead to dangerous road accidents. In some quarters this cry is being heard. A few years ago Rachael Hutchessons teenage son died in a fiery smash near Bathurst when he was a passenger in what is alleged to have been a stolen car driven by an unsupervised learner driver. Having been experiencing waves and waves of grief, she w...

A recent Sydney Morning Herald article described a situation in the United States when a husband when using his wifes private password on their shared computer, so as to read her G-mail, discovered from these emails a dalliance of adultery. The article went on to explain that after Leon Walker, 33, of Michigan, discovered this adultery, his wife Clara Walker filed for a divorce, which was granted in December. In the Australian context and most Western countries there is no fault divorce, so you...

Photo  -   Bible 1 The ABC Religious Affairs Compass program documentary in 2011 on the King James Bible of 1611 titled "When God spoke English. The making of the King James Bible bought to light a number of fascinating aspects of its translation and final preparation." One of these final checks was that it was read aloud, as it would be read aloud in church each Sunday. Sometimes words were substituted to ensure the sound of the language flowed. This remains a hallmark of the King James Bi...

Photo - Winston Churchill - Pixabay Of the many things I might associate with Easter, surely something on Winston Churchill might be better left for Anzac week. But there has been some very interesting material recently coming out about his life that in might relate in some measure to Easter. Winston Churchill was a larger than life public figure when I was growing up during the 1950s. Although he was the wartime Prime Minister of Great Britain, his legends and his pronouncements were well-pub...

Photo  -   Tronson du Coudray art “Ascension”   "The five biggest money mistakes" - I found this in my archive from a Sydney Morning Herald article. With Easter upon us, l realised this could so easily be converted into an article for church growth and church facilities construction as to how best to handle such debt and investments. The article was highlighted by a first sentence which read: "One wrong decision can put your financial future at severe disadvantage" and so too a church...

Photo  -  Tronson du Coudray art “Lines of Life”   One of the key instructions I give in my ministry to Christian young writers and new converts in following Jesus is that of Jesus words, that the sun and rain fall on the just and unjust / righteous and unrighteous, in reference to His grace upon all mankind. In this my 42 nd  year in Christian ministry I am more than ever convinced that good theology leads to a better understood life, that is an overall more balanced view of all that ...

Photo  -    Lone Pine A few years ago, like many Australians I went to the cinema to view Russell Crowes The Water Diviner. The story line is about a father, an Australian farmer, who lost his three sons on Gallipoli in that disastrous military campaign in 1915. What fascinated me, amongst many things in the movie, was the work of the Commonwealth War Graces Commission in 1919-20 on Gallipoli as the team painstakingly identified from old military maps exactly where the various battles took...

Photo  -   All Night Sitter by Mark Tronson My parents were dairy farmers at Crediton (Eungella) on the great dividing range west of Mackay Queensland and moved into the Mackay township in 1955 after my father suffered a horse accident during a cyclone when herding ion the milking cows. His story can be read in his diaries held on both our site and the Mackay library. On one occasion I recall welcoming friends off the Sunlander passenger train at Mackay Railway Station and watching this be...
