Aspen city council candidates Sam Rose, Bill Guth, and incumbent Skippy Mesirow are vying for two seats on the council in the March 7 municipal election. Sam Rose, who ran for council once before, is a volunteer firefighter, a member of the city's planning and zoning commission, and would be the youngest-ever city council member at age 29. This is the first of three candidate interviews.

Beginning in the last two years, the expectation that transit will absorb Aspen’s growth has been put to the test. Although car counts at the entrance were relatively low last year, other factors help explain why 2021 saw perhaps the highest level of community angst about traffic in a generation.

A management plan for the Marolt Open Space is designed to leave it mostly the same, with perhaps a small bike park on the southwest corner after the community weighs in.
