Lubbock law enforcement lead procession for 2 Concho County officers killed during shootout Monday in Eden EDEN - Two Concho County sheriff s deputies were killed in a shootout in Eden on Monday night, according to police reports. The slain officers were transported to Lubbock for an autopsy, with a procession led by area law enforcement. Vehicles pulled to the side of Interstate 27 in south Lubbock as well as other thoroughfares on the route. At approximately 8:40 p.m. Monday, the deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Bryan Street for a dog complaint. An Eden city employee also arrived at the house.

According to a post on the CCSO s Facebook page, the deputies were Samuel Leonard and Sgt. Stephen Jones.  Funeral services for Leonard, Badge No. 2402, will be Monday, May 17, at First Baptist Church in Lamesa.   The escort home for Jones will leave Lubbock at approximately 8 a.m. enroute to San Angelo on U.S. Hwy 87. Funeral services for Sgt. Jones are pending.

The donation will be used toward the planting of trees at McAlister Park. National Safe Digging Month aims to remind all Texans to call 811 before digging. Something as common as planting trees can be dangerous. A simple call can prevent traffic delays, evacuations and, in serious cases, injury.
