A man who last week admitted to two thefts which he blamed on his drug habit, has been jailed for 30 months and recommended for rehabilitation.
Jehiel Falzon, a 27-year-old Żabbar resident, was arraigned last week over two separate thefts that took place last month.
On the evening of January 9, the man robbed a 66-year-old woman in Triq Lia, Żabbar.
The next day, the accused admitted to breaking into a vehicle that was parked in Triq is-Santwarju, Żabbar.
The man pleaded guilty upon his arraignment, while his lawyer, Martin Fenech, explained that the thefts were “not planned” but stemmed from Falzon’s drug habit.

Jehiel Falzon, 27, from Zabbar, admitted to a snatch and grab that took place on January 9, around 7.40pm, when a 66-year old woman was robbed on Triq Lia, Zabbar.
The next day, again in the evening, the man broke into a parked vehicle in Triq is-Santwarju, Zabbar stealing and causing damage.
The accused, who was also charged with recidivism, admitted to the charges.
When making submissions on punishment, legal aid counsel Martin Fenech pointed out that the charges stemmed from Falzon’s drug habit and his crimes were “not planned.”

A young woman from Wardija has been remanded in custody after being charged with stealing cash and mobile phones, ostensibly to finance a drug habit.
29 year-old Kim Borg Nicolas Virtu was accompanied by her distraught parents as she appeared in the dock before magistrate Ian Farrugia this morning, charged with several counts of aggravated theft as well as fraud and recidivism.

Three would-be stowaways have been jailed after being caught attempting to leave Malta inside a shipping container.
Tarek Akutan Kitiel, 18, Djibrilf Adam, 18, and Nasreddin Salem, 29, all from Sudan and residents at the Hal Far open centre were arraigned before Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo this afternoon.
Inspector Christian Abela accused the men of embarking a vessel without informing the immigration authorities and entering a restricted area of the Valletta sea terminal.
