A former Army sergeant was sentenced to three years in prison for defrauding millions of dollars from the service in a rideshare scam using illegally obtained personal information from more than 800 soldiers, the Justice Department announced.

The couple co-owned and operated a rideshare company which claimed to shuttle military personnel and received millions in funds from the U.S. Army.

Federal authorities have sentenced a Killeen couple for fraud after they were found guilty of operating an illegitimate rideshare service for soldiers.

Kevin Romulus Pelayo, 45, and his wife, Cristine Furio Fredericks, 40, have both been charged.

The couple illegally obtained personal information of more than 800 soldiers.
