Five Saugus firefighters graduate state Firefighting Academy Five Saugus firefighters completed an intensive 50-day training program to graduate from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy. The Saugus firefighters in the Academy’s Class 289 include James Cresta-Devine, Patrick Cross, Ryan Henehan, Christopher Hunt and Drew Oxley. Saugus Fire Chief Mike Newbury said Oxley was named the outstanding student in his class. “This just shows how good our in-house initial training is at the Saugus Fire Department when this is a regular occurrence,” Newbury said. Newbury told the Advertiser all five recruits excelled in their training. He wished them all long and healthy careers.

Shrewsbury firefighters graduate from Massachusetts Firefighting Academy

Shrewsbury firefighters graduate from Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Community Content Four members of the Shrewsbury Fire Department graduated from the Massachusetts Fire Academy. Firefighters Alex Milosz, Craig Mawdsley, Michael Penney and Connor Jordan were among 12 firefighters from eight departments to graduate from the academy s Career Recruit Firefighter Training Program Class 288 on Jan. 8. Graduates were recognized at a ceremony at the Department of Fire Services headquarters in Stow. The four firefighters were hired through a FEMA Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant, which funds a portion of their salaries and benefits for the first three years of their service with the Shrewsbury Fire Department.
