State announces $12.9 million in funding for anti-gang, anti-domestic violence programs

SPRINGFIELD State officials on Monday announced nearly $13 million in grant funding to communities and agencies across Massachusetts to prevent domestic and gang violence.
Gov. Charlie Baker’s administration said the money would be awarded under two programs: the Sen. Charles E. Shannon Jr. Community Safety Initiative and the Violence Against Women Act, Services Training Officers Prosecutors.
Shannon grant funding, which pays for gang violence prevention, totaled $10 million, while funding for the domestic violence program totaled $2.9 million.
“Our Administration remains committed to using every public safety tool available to protect residents and communities from violence,” Baker said in a prepared statement. “For victims and survivors affected by these crimes, especially women and young people, these grants will help to equip victim-support organizations,
