An initial investigation into a massive fire, that closed a stretch of Interstate 10 in downtown Los Angeles, found that it was set with "malice intent," California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday.

A massive fire in a storage area that shut down a stretch of the I-10 freeway in Los Angeles was preliminarily found to be arson, the governor said.

A Caltrans engineer said he expects the best case in getting the 10 Freeway through downtown Los Angeles open as soon as possible. Luckily, the fire didn't lead to more severe damage.

Engineers with the California Department of Transportation met Monday to assess the damage and offer possible timelines for getting traffic moving again through downtown Los Angeles.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said the fire was likely caused by arson. Authorities have yet to determine how many did it and when Interstate 10 will open again.
