I think in a sense the discussion we are going to have today, people all over this country. In a sense that many of us included myself, have seen folks go into a hospital for one problem or another and end coming out different than it went in and sometimes dying as a result. What is widely known is the major cause of death in the United States today is the heart disease, a serious problem. The second leading cause of death is cancer. According to the 2010 cdc report, 597,000 people died of heart disease, 574,000 died of cancer. What is not widely known and in fact what the function of this hearing is about and i hope to do my best with the help of my fellow senators and members of the panel is to start focusing attention on the third leading cause of death in the United States of america and that will come as the great surprise and the third leading cause of death in this country has to do with preventable medical errors in hospitals. My question is, is the president still committed to taking executive action on immigration, and what sort of action is he considering at this time . Yes. The president is very committed to taking executive action to fix our broken immigration system. In the absence of action by congress and so am i. And were developing a set of reforms that i would characterize as comprehensive in nature, but within our existing legal authorities. There are a number of things we can do, and we should do, to fix our immigration system, which i anticipate will be announced somewhere between the midterm elections and the end of the year. I think thats what the president said. Okay. Yes, sir, right here. Thank you, sir. I im matt, with abc news. Louder. Im matt lauer with abc news, question. On the question of fo
To iraq, his last memories as he dove onto of his soldiers to cover them from a rocket propelled grenade was that you would never see his wife or his child again. While he would survive, his last words proved to be prophetic. The blast cost him his site. But despite his injuries has pursued his education and is planning to start a new business. Though he may never actually see his firstborn daughter, he and his wife, heather, have added two more children to their growing family. In a sense, veterans like sergeant pepper and many others have sacrifice one life to the country and service. In an instant, their hopes and dreams for the future were shattered. But with a love of their countrymen and the support of the family and their community, they rediscover their purpose in life to learn to accept or overcome the obstacles their injuries have imposed. These walls remind us that a sacrifice might only have of our nation is most often shared with a loved one who cares for our injured heroe
Those illnesses in the last 20 years since a 1. 4 trillion. The cdc supports the states in a discretionary Immunization Program to bridge the gaps that are not addressed through the program. In particular supporting the Public Health infrastructure for immunization so state and local Health Department said Immunization Programs that work with clinicians in those areas they dont just investigate outbreaks like the Measles Outbreak but they work day in and day out supporting provider education in dealing with vaccine shortages and distributing vaccine so they get to the providers offices. Washington has a fantastic program. Thank you. For me and a lot of my colleagues disease prevention was a key priority when the Affordable Care act, i am proud of the fact they have to cover recommended vaccines with cross sharing. Health Insurance Coverage is increasing can you tell me what cdc is doing to help to build insurance the Affordable Care act means more people have insurance and that is exce

Because they are and im familiar with some anecdotes where say in ophthalmology, which i know fairly well where the issue about retina specialists was raised. And, you know, through the academy of ophthalmology went to the insurer who i think just responded. Oh, we didnt know that. So we will make sure to put some retina specialists in the plan. So i think its just discovery that this is an issue. And i would say yes, you know, the detail that is going to be needed in some specialties will probably have to go by sub specialty. And it is going to make it more complex but this is going to be a big part of our market environment. So we mights well ju as well ju that. Anybody else . Brian. It does vary by state. But some do a deep dive and they go down to specialists, subspecialists. Not at medicare venues though. We dont get to regulate that. So were excluded. Yes, go right ahead.
