Most of Gov. Kim Reynolds' goals for the 2024 were met when session ended Saturday as legislative leaders reflected on a contentious year.

Also, the Senate passed a proposed constitutional amendment that would make tax increases harder.

Senate File 2340 gives Iowa law enforcement officers the ability to charge people with an aggravated misdemeanor if they have been denied admission, deported or otherwise removed from the U.S., or if they currently have an order to leave the country.

The law making illegal immigration a state crime in Iowa, modeled after a 2023 Texas law, would go into effect July 1.

Gov. Kim Reynolds signed dozens of bills into law Wednesday, including those related to pregnancy centers, swatting calls, retail theft, “deepfake” child pornography, and nuisance strip clubs.
