After announcing they need 26 tutors in August, AmeriCorps programs announced they need 15 additional tutors in the St. Cloud to start in January.

The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) test results from this past school year were just released. They confirm what we already knew: School closures, staffing challenges and virtual learning due to the pandemic impacted all students, but disproportionately LatinX, Black and American Indian students. The pandemic has widened Minnesota’s racial achievement gaps in reading and math.

Students in Detroit experienced greater learning loss in math than in reading during the pandemic, and that’s on top of longstanding gaps in achievement.

For the last two years, COVID-19 forced many students across the state out of schools and onto Zoom for virtual learning. That time out of the classroom can be seen in the results from statewide tests released Thursday.

Tutors are still needed for the coming school year. The tutors would work for education divisions of the federal AmeriCorps program.
