respond at all in class. you mentioned the e-mail from that student. that student chronicled in realtime what was happening in that class as the campus police would come and try to remove him. and at one point, she said he scare tess crap out of me. this was somebody the math instructor said they all thought or feared would come back to class one day with a gun. that s specifically what they said, kyra. eventually, he was removed from that class and removed from the campus altogether and told he could not come back to that campus until and unless he had a psychiatric evaluation. and that s what is so hard to understand. dr. whitman, i d love to bring you in here. dr. litman, pima college said he needed a health evaluation before he came back to school, so he just quit school. at the same time, campus police had talked to him five separate times about his disturbances. there were all these clues leading up to the fact that there was was wrong with this
professors, so drew what, did so, drew, what did you learn from him? reporter: don, it s shocking to learn that at least 20 people in this town knew of jared loughner s apparent mental illness long before he was suspected in this crime. they are the classmates and the math instructor from an elementary algebra class that loughner was taking last summer. in that class he was becoming very disruptive, disturbing the other classmates, becoming increasingly more scary to them. in fact, one of the e-mails from one of the students at the time, don, was that this guy scares the crap out of me. his math instructor told me earlier today that from day one, day one, loughner was making outbursts in class that were very scary. not every class, just the first day of class and then the rest of the days he was very quiet and kind of isolated and in his own little world and
disturbance, blurting things out in class. the math instructor said there were five three or four disturbances in class before the professor had him kicked out of that class. i want you to listen to this one particular passage in which i asked the math teacher whether or not he thought this man was just disturbed or becoming increasingly potential for violence. this is what he said. he was a threat. he actually wrote something on the quiz that said mayhem fest and wrote it in big capital letters. reporter: mayhem? mayhem fest. reporter: apparently a reference to a band, i am told. the professor said he was scared of this guy. other students in the class were, quite frankly, scared of this guy. again, it was repeated times he was creating random disturbances. at one time standing up spouting about how the class was a

scared of the guy. ben mcgahee said when the name jared loughner came up yesterday, not surprised at all. that s chilling. was there any indication that the teacher sought any mental health treatment. he s a math instructor. he knows that jared loughner was told you couldn t get back to campus unit will you got mental health and he obviously didn t return to class. there were signs perhaps something could have been done. i asked him, what more could the school have done? he wished the school had intervened earlier to get him out of class. there was no violence in the school. just odd behavior, threatening to the other students but not overtly. right. so it s one of those situations. what are you going to do? we ll find out more details perhaps from the school about what they did and whether a psychiatric evaluation did take place. pretty upsetting to know that
