West Tisbury authorizes Proposition 2½ override
West Tisbury selectmen have authorized a Proposition 2½ override to cover 2021 warrant appropriations â among them, $100,000 to redo the Tiah s Cove Road culvert.
West Tisbury selectmen voted unanimously Wednesday evening to authorize a Proposition 2½ override to cover appropriations on the annual town meeting warrant. The override is estimated at $200,000, but wonât be finalized until the warrant is approved.Â
One item on the warrant the selectmen agreed to keep was a $100,000 repair and upgrade of the Tiahâs Cove Road culvert. Selectmen Kent Healy reiterated reservations about a culvert project that heâd expressed in prior meetings.Â

West Tisbury keeps police chief, looks for new fire chief

West Tisbury selectmen voted 2-0 to sign a new three-year contract with Police Chief Matt Mincone. Selectman Jeffrey “Skipper” Manter recused himself because he is a member of the police department.
Mincone has been with the department since 1995. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2012 and chief in 2018. Town administrator Jennifer Rand informed selectmen Mincone’s new contract reflects his old one with the major difference being his pay raise.

Fire engine crashes into cargo van

West Tisbury Fire Engine 721 rear-ended a cargo van Tuesday morning on Edgartown–West Tisbury Road. The cargo van was subsequently propelled into the back of an SUV. The fire truck was returning from an alarm call at about 9:45 am, according to West Tisbury Deputy Fire Chief Greg Pachico. Pachico said two vehicles were in the process of turning off Edgartown–West Tisbury Road when the accident occurred.
