Contractors too busy for Whittier Covered Bridge

It hasn’t been open since 2008. The town-owned bridge sits off Nudd Road, which is off Route 25. When it was in service, it spanned the Bearcamp River. If put back, it would connect Nudd Road and Covered Bridge Road, off Route 16. In addition to providing a short cut, the bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Sun asked selectmen and town officials about it at their meeting Monday when selectmen had hoped to open bid proposals. “So there’s two contractors that potentially could be putting that back on, and they are just booked,” said Ossipee Public Works Director TJ Eldridge.

Judge orders woman to vacate Ossipee mobile home

OSSIPEE — A Carroll County circuit judge has ordered a local woman to vacate her mobile home, where she was keeping from 50-100 birds, including fowl such as ducks, chickens and geese, as well as several dogs. The woman, Christine Harris, 67, says it was all a misunderstanding and the town of Ossipee and Judge Melissa Vetanze are persecuting her. Town Administrator Matt Sawyer Jr., also the town’s health officer, spoke about Vetanze’s order regarding Harris’ trailer at 46 Stoneview Road at Monday’s selectmen’s meeting. The judge said photos of the trailer gave the town probable cause to support an administrative inspection warrant. She said the photos “depict mountains of garbage, an old dilapidated dumpster overflowing with garbage, miscellaneous debris and refuse, various cages, tarps and rubble, along with one dog and multiple fowl appearing to reside among the debris,” said Vetanze.
