Gary passed away peacefully at the young age of 78, at the TBHRHSC with family and friends by his side. Dad’s heart and soul had many more years to go “Double time” but his lungs made it hard for him to continue.
Dad was born in Hamilton, ON to June and Mike McCourt, moving to SSM where he went to school and played hockey. Having little money, he would strap magazines to his legs for shin pads. He skated against famous Esposito brothers knowing they couldn’t catch him. Dad loved the Montreal Canadiens and would challenge anyone to disagree.
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Maureena Johnson (Risk), age 80, on Sunday February 28, 2021 at the TBRHSC.
Maureena was born on July 31, 1940 in Nipigon, Ontario where she grew up and went to school. She made many moves and later settled in Thunder Bay, retiring from Abitibi. She enjoyed curling in her younger years. Being surrounded by family and friends was what gave Maureena the most joy.
Maureena will be lovingly remembered by her life partner Gary McCourt; their baby LULU; sisters Vianna, Jolene, Patricia (Kenneth); brother Gibson (Jeannette); as well as many nieces and nephews.
Maureena, Gary and Lulu worked hard at Lac Des Milles Lac where they ran a successful ice fishing business. They were blessed with meeting and gaining numerous friends over the years. There were so many great times at Lac, which held a special place in her heart. So many wonderful people and we thank you for being a part of Maureena’s life.
