ST. CLAIRSVILLE In an ongoing effort to keep the roads safe, the Ohio State Highway Patrol will continue its focus on impaired driving arrests throughout the holiday season.
Lt. Maurice Waddell, commander of the patrol’s St. Clairsville Post, said in the past five years, 40 percent of all the fatal crashes in Ohio have been related to operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Since 2015, there have been 81,006 OVI-related crashes in the state, killing 2,691 people and injuring 49,190 others, according to a release from the patrol. Waddell said the patrol is urging motorists to drive sober to help prevent these incidents from occurring.
