Things hadn't gone well for Michigan in the second half. Through 26 minutes of football, the offense hadn't scored a point and a three point halftime lead turned into a seven point deficit in the later stages of the fourth quarter. Michigan needed a drive to tie the game and as the eleven men took the field, it was fair to deem it a legacy drive for so many veteran heroes of this Michigan team, JJ McCarthy, Blake Corum, Roman Wilson, and the rest of the OL. They needed to make plays an...

FIRST OFF: DUNNO. Give or take Matt Hibner, who stopped playing in order to maintain a redshirt and transfer somewhere next year, Michigan is the last P5 team without someone in the transfer portal. This obviously isn't going to last, but I mention it because that fact combined with the peak COVID-shirt year means just about anyone could come back, or leave, for 2024. Michigan only definitively loses six contributors: Cornelius Johnson, Cam Goode, Mike Barrett, Mike Sainristil, Josh Wallace...

12/2/2023 – Michigan 26, Iowa 0 – 13-0, 9-0 Big Ten, Big Ten Champs Two years ago this game was a coronation, a delight, a confection. Michigan broke out a halfback pass in the first half, and a reverse that went a billion yards, and sort of exuberantly leaned on Iowa until they capitulated in the second half. Michigan's lead at halftime in that game: 11. Michigan's lead at halftime in this game: 10. It wasn't more largely because Colston Loveland dropped a pass at his facemas...

Sluggish dominance was the name of the game.

11/25/2023 – Michigan 30, Ohio State 24 – 12-0, 9-0 Big Ten, Big Ten East Champs Shrek was nude, erect, and prodigious. This did not phase me. I am a member of the Oregon Trail generation. When the guy who posted this at me was still in the womb I was casually scrolling past goatse and lemonparty. There is only one image on the internet that has ever shook me. I will not say what it is, and I have not seen it in fifteen years. Turgid Shrek is nothing compared to it. It goes without saying th...

11/18/2023 – Michigan 31, Maryland 24 – 11-0, 8-0 Big Ten Michigan got up 23-3; they'd paved Maryland on a couple touchdown drives, forced a fumble out of Taulia Tagovailoa for a touchdown, and blocked a punt. Hooray, another one of these games, can we please fast forward to next weekend. I no longer want football to be happening, because Roman Wilson has already exited this game and there is no reason to continue this exhibition before the main event. Then the other football game happe...

FORMATION NOTES: PSU was a pretty standard 4-3 over for most of the game, preferring to shade a linebacker over the slot. They did not generally have to add extra guys to the box, except when Michigan got super-jumbo. They had their normal 4-3 out there for a couple Big Big Boy snaps but then adjusted: I labeled this a 7-2. PSU's problem is that while the five guys on the right are DL, the two standup guys over the TE side are 220 and 230 and they're going up against Hinton, Jones, and...

11/11/2023 – Michigan 24, Penn State 15 – 10-0, 7-0 Big Ten Everyone I have talked to in the last two weeks has been furious. I have also been furious, of course, but other people have been so furious that I—me, myself—have been attempting to calm people down. I have asserted that the Big Ten would not wantonly screw Michigan out of a football game with refereeing; that maybe the guy who sounds like he's running a Taliban cell should take a step back; that leaving the Big Ten is an ...

Joe Taylor may not be a name you know on Michigan’s football roster. The second-ranked Wolverines are well the the contributions made by the walk-on and many other players that
