The lure of $2,242,500 in purses has attracted many of harness racing’s stars to The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono on Saturday afternoon for its biggest card of the year, Sun Stakes Saturday.

Max Contract and driver Andy Miller were forced to sweat out a Judges’ inquiry en route to capturing the $92,300 Shady Daisy, which looked a bit like a demolition derby in deep stretch.

Live coverage of the 2022 Hambletonian Day card will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday (August 6) with live streaming video and race-by-race recaps, replays and reactions.

A pair of fillies dropped into the box of the Hambletonian eliminations to try and become the third to beat the boys in the last five years and the 16th in the history of the event. Focus centered on Marcus Melander pupil Joviality S in the second $100,000 elimination on Saturday (July 30) at The Meadowlands until Jiggy Jog S stole the spotlight in the final yards.

Max Contract entered Saturday’s (July 16) $150,000 Mistletoe Shalee at The Meadowlands with the least experience. But, despite making only her fifth start, the daughter of Huntsville flashed an incredible turn of speed in the homestretch and devoured pacesetter Boudoir Hanover on the line to capture the event for three-year-old pacing fillies in a stakes record-equaling 1:48.3.
