'Dorchester is trying to see off home building plan'

This week my wife and I had our first non essential trip out. We went to the top of the Abbotsbury Hill and had a great view of Portland which most people do not realise has more homes than Dorchester. We are so lucky to live in Dorset and well understand why other people want to live here. Sadly we have yet to explore the water meadows North of Dorchester although I suspect we have plenty of time as the citizens of Dorchester will be out with their banners and pitch forks preventing t...

Here are five more pubs, both urban and rural in this area, which have lasted the course over many years. All pubs are, of course, currently closed due to the national lockdown but we are very much looking forward to returning to some of these enduring watering holes when restrictions are lifted. Scr...

It would be fair to describe the great English novelist and poet Thomas Hardy as a Renaissance man, although he may have had a more somber viewpoint than many. Born on June 2, 1840, near the market town of Dorchester, England, and son of a stonemason and builder, Hardy lacked the funds to pursue a top-tier education. Instead, he learned architecture, for which he exhibited prodigious skill. In 1862, he enrolled in King’s College in London, where he won prizes from the Royal Institute of Br...
