The three-story home, spanning more than 20,000 square feet, is located in Fort Missoula, and for decades served the military community as a functioning hospital.
Landowner Max Wolf said that denial of the development means his company cannot afford to fix the hospital, which was built in 1911 and is in serious disrepair.
The owners of the property at Fort Missoula on Tuesday said they're ready to apply for a demolition permit to remove the Old Post Hospital after the city denied a permit to develop housing.
During a special meeting of City Council on Feb. 22, council voted on an appeal of a 2023 Historic Preservation Commission decision regarding the Old Post Hospital development.
The "Fort Missoula Commons" would add 16 townhomes and two commercial buildings on land surrounding the Post Hospital. The hospital would then be restored and one garage would be demolished.
