Maxfield Stakes News Today

Inspiral in France, Casa Creed at Saratoga and Fev Rover in Virginia all earned Breeders' Cup spots in weekend horse racing.

Amerman Racing’s Tumbarumba thundered down the center of Ellis Park and scored his first stakes victory in Sunday’s featured sixth running of the $250,000 Ellis Park Derby (Listed).

It did not take long for Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen to claim another graded stakes victory at Saratoga Race Course after sweeping Saturday’s Alfred G. Vanderbilt (G1) with Jackie’s Warrior and Jim Dandy (G2) with Epicenter, waiting just 24 hours to watch Gunite award him with a repeat win in the $200,000 Amsterdam (G2) for 3-year-olds.

Winchell Thoroughbreds’ homebred Gunite slipped through an opening along the inside rail at the top of the stretch and determinedly turned back late charges from My Prankster and Hoist the Gold to win Sunday’s first running of the $160,000 Maxfield Overnight Stakes at Churchill Downs.
