Argentine President Javier Milei confirmed Monday upon his return from Spain that there will be no May Pact as he had planned because the so-called Omnibus Law -officially known as the Bases Law- has not yet been approved by the Senate.

The president had initially set May 25 as the deadline to meet with governors to sign an agreement

“Since the coming to power of the ultra-neoliberal and reactionary government of President Javier Milei, the eyes of the global left have turned to Argentina to try to understand the phenomenon of the rise of the extreme right in Latin America and around the world.”

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spokeswoman Julie Kozack said that Argentina needed to lift the exchange rate ceiling if the government were to protect the countrys Central Bank reserves.
