A Kendal businesswoman who survived lockdown and almost being shut down by the council has been praised for its work and resilience. Amanda Slattery, owner of Maya Maya Ltd which is based out of the Dockray Hall Estate, has been trading for 16 years. She received an order for closure from the council in December 2020; however, after a swarm of local support the decision was overturned.

A KENDAL business which was threatened with closure has been given a reprieve. Maya Maya was served with a cease and desist order by South Lakeland District Council after a complaint was registered claiming it was not in keeping with the area. The company has been trading for 16 years and recently moved to Dockray Hall Estate. The order was set to shut down the business by February 1, 2021. It was uncovered that an administrative technicality meant the business was listed as a warehouse - and was not to be used for trading. After receiving support from local residents, other businesses,and the previous owners, Maya Maya Ltd has been informed that the decision has been reversed by SLDC.
