“Local airports help bring economic opportunities and critical resources to communities across Kansas,” said Moran. “It is vital for Kansans to have efficient ways to reach and connect with the rest of the world, and these grants are an investment into the future of our rural airports.”
$241,900 to McPherson Airport
McPherson Airport received $241,900 from the Federal Aviation Administration to install NAVAIDS, or navigational aids, and to install a runway visual guidance system.
Given the southwinds in Kansas, pilots that fly into McPherson typically do so from the north side of the runway. They come in closer to the secondary wind cone navigational aid that is “long overdue” for replacement after decades of years of use, according to airport manager Cynthia Peterson.
