The Colorado Academy of PAs offered its first PA leader of the year award this year. CAPA board members elected to add this inaugural award to honor PAs in our state that have proven to be collaborative leaders. It was my pleasure to nominate my colleague, and friend, Meagan Hillman, MBA, PA-C for this award. The PA Leader Award nominating critic included:
Evidence of mutual respect and trust
Teamwork in providing care to patients
Team, community or professional leadership
Evidence of team community services
And is “awarded to a PA that works collaboratively with the healthcare team and promotes PA practice.”

A bipartisan group of lawmakers has introduced a bill to protect the private information of public health department workers.

DENVER â In normal times, public health departments operate in the background of daily life.
The departments help run food programs, deal with air and water quality, make sure restaurants are following health precautions and more.
But these arenât normal times. For nearly a year, the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent health orders have changed daily life in the state â from wearing masks to limits on gatherings.

While the vaccine rollout has hit snags across the U.S., including in many large urban areas, some rural counties — with their smaller populations and well-connected communities — have gotten creative about getting the doses out quickly to long-term care facilities.
Bingo is back in the dining room. In-person visits have returned, too, though with masks and plexiglass. The Haven Assisted Living Facility’s residents are even planning a field trip for a private movie screening once they’ve all gotten their second round of covid-19 vaccines.
Such changes are small but meaningful to residents in the Hayden, Colorado, long-term care home, and they’re due mostly to the arrival of the vaccine.
